Staying Positive Amongst The Chatter
There is so much noise in the world today. We are bombarded with negative information every time we turn on the TV, radio, or social media. How do we hear something negative and not ruminate over it for hours? Have you ever had a disagreement with someone and, before you know it, it has taken over your thoughts and emotions? Have you heard bad news and let it spoil what would have been a great day? So…how do we stay positive amongst all the chatter?
I would like to offer up the practice of gratitude. When negative thoughts are hijacking our brain, what if we could turn that around and create calm? How? By focusing our thoughts and attention on someone or something we are grateful for. By focusing our mind on what we are grateful for, we take the energy away from the negative thoughts, and a shift happens. Over time it becomes easier to recognize when we are falling into negative thinking patterns, and we can shift our thinking earlier.
Does this mean that we never talk about negative subjects? No…we cannot live sheltered under a rock, but we don’t have to let those negative thoughts hijack our brain. Take time to unplug from the sources of negativity in your world and find gratitude in your life.
“Everybody gets so much information all day long that they lose their common sense”
~ Gertrude Stein
